In Italy, between 2001 and 2007, beds in public hospitals fell by 30 thousand units , while accredited private structures have strengthened their presence in the area, came to represent almost half of the national hospital care facilities. E 'scenario that emerges from the eighth Osservasalute report, presented by the Catholic University of Rome, which analyzes the quality of health services in the country. The reduction of beds, as regards the public sector, the report says, according to national lines occurred uniformly in the regions. During the period considered, the percentage of beds in the total number of accredited private beds is instead increased from 19% to 21%. According to findings of the report, in Italian hospitals admissions are going down and so the days in hospital. Between 2001 and 2008, in fact, the overall rate of hospitalization was reduced by 22% for inpatient admissions. In addition, the National Health Service suffered a serious shortage of nursing staff, although in recent years there has been an increase of 4% of nurses.
