08/03/2011 - ANSA) - STRASBOURG, MARCH 8 - The European Parliament has today pointed the finger at the strategies vaccination that the 27 Member States have fielded in 2009 and 2010 to protect European citizens from the spread of the H1N1 virus, responsible for influenza A. For the future, MEPs prefer to play in advance by adopting a resolution calling for,''group purchasing of vaccines to save important resources, but also play rules' effective to prevent conflicts of interest.'' Rapporteur of the measure, the French member of the group Verdi, Michael Rivas, was keen to stress that the resolution aims to highlight the concerns that were raised on the disproportionate response to influenza A in Europe (which the World Health Organization 'pandemic had declared in June 2009 note), so' as the potential influence of pharmaceutical companies on the actions taken.'' When seeking to improve cooperation between Member States, MEPs point out that ''for the emergency, billions of euro were spent''in the face''of 2,900 deaths from the H1N1 virus until April 2010, compared to 40,000 annual deaths of a normal seasonal flu''. The response of national governments to the pandemic and 'was very different: the EU, only the Netherlands had to send the shredder 18 million doses of vaccine, while in the U.S. were eliminated expired vaccines worth at least $ 260 million. To avoid possible conflicts of interest and then the deputies proposed the publication of the declaration of interests of the advisors of the authorities' European health. (ANSA).
